Valentine's Spl: Bollywood learns to kiss!
On Valentine's Day, we present the most talked about kisses on screen...
What is love without a kiss to remember it by? What is a film without a kiss to talk about? Once a rare sight in Bollywood, the 'kiss' has evolved from two swinging flowers and necking doves to an actual lip-lock. From a chaste peck on the lips to a full-blown smooch, the kiss is not how it used to be before. And with every passing year, it has become bolder.
Aamir Khan and Karisma Kapoor in Raja Hindustani: Karisma's career was going nowhere at that time, till this kiss salvaged her. It made her the one of the most sought after stars in Bollywood.
Kamal Hasan and Rani Mukerji in Hey Ram: They set the gossip mills churning with their passionate kiss in the film. Kamal Hasan got a real deal with Rani dressed up as a sensual Bengali housewife. The scene was played a prominent part in the film's promotional campaign.
Vinod Khanna and Madhuri Dixit in Dayavan: This one is perhaps one of the most talked about kisses in Bollywood. Vinod Khanna seemed a little too eager to latch onto young Madhuri's lips. It is considered as one of the longest smooching scenes in the history of Bollywood.
Rishi Kapoor and Dimple in Saagar: After her separation with Rajesh Khanna, Dimple Kapadia did kiss around with Rishi Kapoor in the movie Saagar which became a talking point for many. This was their second film after Bobby and the audience loved their chemistry in the film.
John Abraham and Bipasha Basu in Jism: The young lovers could be seen kissing in a very passionate embrace in Pooja Bhatt's film Jism. Needless to say, there was a great deal of flesh on display. Voted the Sexist Woman in Asia by a British newspaper, Bipasha says in real life she likes her man to make the first move.
Shabana Azmi and Nandita Das in Fire: Deepa Mehta's Fire was also about sisters-in-law drawn to each other not just emotionally but physically too. Fire was not really flattering to lesbians because it showed the two women drawing close in retaliation to the men who were not paying much attention to them. However, Fire was a taboo subject. And Nandita Das who played Nita, the woman who initiates the relationship, confessed to being uncomfortable during the intimate scenes with Shabana. "I kept giggling every time we were close," Nandita was quoted saying.
Himanshu and Mallika Sherawat in Khwahish: Soon after the promos went on air, it was touted as Jism 2. Besides a 20-second sizzling kiss on the beach, the film boasted of 16 more smooching scenes. And talking about their acting skills? Well, our lips are sealed!
Emran Hashmi and Mallika Sherawat in Murder: The actor dubbed as the 'serial kisser of Bollywood' had a gala time kissing around Mallika in every nook and corner of the city (of course in the film). But sadly enough, Emraan looked depraved and without any class.
Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai in Dhoom 2: This film changed it all. With his sheer screen presence he over-shadowed everyone else in this movie. Though the industry was all praises for Ash as well, the 'Bachchans' were very disappointed seeing the kissing scene between Hrithik and the beautiful Ash. Er...quite understandable!
Boman Irani and Shabana Azmi in Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd: It was one of the coolest kisses on screen where Boman Irani kisses Shabana, who plays his wife in the film. The kiss comes in at a crucial point in life...where Boman reaches his ancestral house to see it being dismantled. When Shabana moves towards him to console he kisses her right in the middle of the street.
